Millers Falls Company — Related Businesses

April 2008 Revision

hardware company ephemera

The pages at oldtoolheaven.com contain information on a number of hardware businesses that were either absorbed by the Millers Falls Falls Company or affiliated with it in some way. This page lists a number of them, although it is by no means comprehensive. Rather than being shown as a family tree, the companies are grouped into clusters.

The 'Amidon Companies' cluster lists the partnerships that Charles H. Amidon was involved with after he left the Millers Falls Manufacturing Company. The 'Backus Companies' cluster contains a listing of companies associated with Quimby S. Backus, an inventor who sold his vise company to Millers Falls. When Millers Falls merged with Goodell-Pratt in 1931, it absorbed a company with a long history of acquiring smaller operations. The 'Goodell-Pratt Companies' cluster excludes those instances where the company purchased a product line rather than an entire business.

The Millers Falls Company itself could trace its history through several earlier incarnations, and it acquired a half dozen smaller companies during the twentieth century before a takeover by Ingersoll-Rand. Information on the Ingersoll-Rand Company and its numerous acquisitions is not included on this page.
